Bio

Mikal spent her early childhood wandering the Sonoran desert before her family headed to Kansas City, Missouri where her father and grandparents and great grand parents were born. A creature of the foothills, mountains, rivers and plains, she continues to roam the landscape; drawing inspiration from her travels, love life, and the state of the Union.

She has been touring solo and with various musical projects since 1999.

The Kansas City Star, Deli Magazine and Wednesday MidDay Medley declared her last album “The Musical” to be one of the top releases of 2015.

In 2017, she returns to the studio with her full band.

Her other projects include her duo Shapiro Brothers and State City Films.

There’s something that goes beyond Mikal Shapiro’s songs and her live show that makes her melodies so well-crafted and infectious... ...It could be the emotional tangibility her lyrics lend to her songs, it could be the forms her instrumentals use and subvert, it could be the ability for her songs to sound so close they could be emanating from within their listeners. It could be a lot of things. Whatever it is, it makes for an album that is near perfect.”
