Mikal Shapiro was born and mostly raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She received her Masters in Filmmaking from the Art Institute of Chicago after dropping out of art schools most of her adult life.
Her musical influences span popular songs, psych rock, lounge, and old time spirituals as well as classic country, jazz and blues. A third generation storyteller, she draws inspiration from her travels, love life, and the state of the Union.
The Kansas City Star, Deli Magazine and Wednesday MidDay Medley declared her latest album The Musical to be one of the top releases of 2015.
A Northern girl with a Southern heart living in the Mid-West, Teri Quinn writes tunes that are sweet yet savory. With her clawhammer banjo playing and old time hollerin', she mixes an old fashioned sound with a modern grit. Drawing inspiration from moon phases and matters of the heart, her enchanting presence is sure to bewitch you.
A few artists that inspire her songwriting include but are not limited to Gillian Welch, Abigail Washburn, The Tallest Man On Earth, Matt Pond, Fionn Regan, Willie Watson, and Blind Boy Paxton. She is a little girl with a big voice. Her live show will transport you to a creepy moonless night spent in the Smokey Mountains.
Blind Boy Paxton once told her to chill.
Teri is also in a few Kansas City bands. She is a clarinetist in a seven piece indie rock group, Claire and the Crowded Stage and a banjo player and vocalist in a nightmaracana band, Abandoned Bells.
